The Life and Legend of Nikki Havana

There will only be one Nikki Havana. Nikki Havana is a real person, at least in my mind, for I write of her as if I know her intimately.

Chapter 1
The Hotel
She applies her makeup at the vanity. She is staring at his reflection in the mirror. He is sleeping soundly, lying on his side, nude with his back towards her. She enjoys the opportunity to study his body from a distance.
He is tall and in superb physical condition with strong legs that wrap tightly around her in his passion. Years of conditioning gives him great strength and stamina. He has no difficulty holding her body in positions that give her gratification.
He reserved a spacious suite in an upscale hotel in Center City for the weekend.
The suite occupies a corner of the top floor, the view looks out onto the historic Benjamin Franklin Parkway, and has a large bedroom separated from the rest of the suite by double doors. She stands at the vanity in her La Perla light green bra and matching briefs, purchased especially for this weekend.
Their relationship started several months ago – a chance meeting at a friend’s cocktail party. He was nice, but quiet. She guessed he was older than her by ten years. His dark brown hair with a hint of gray, added to the countenance of the special forces operator her friend told her he was at some time in his past.
Inquiring more about him during the party, her friend raved on. “Get in line, every woman in here wants to get between the sheets with that guy, even the committed. As far as anyone knows he has no attachments. Rumors swirl around about him being Dakota’s paramour.”
She stopped listening, it was only talk, her mind was made up. She wanted to know more about him, directly from the source.
Watching, she smiled as her friend’s cat wove through the high heels of the party goers and went directly to him. He bent down to caress the cat. She took note of his hands, strong, the hands of a man who did physical labor. These were the hands of the man she had decided to take on as a lover.
Staring at her image in the mirror, she suddenly became anxious that he would find out about her past and the murder and reject her. He was the perfect lover, sleeping peacefully on the bed they had recently occupied.
Opening the armoire, she selected a pair of formfitting designer jeans in black, and a beige blouse that allowed a hint of the bra to show through. She dressed and held her sandals in her hand, she wouldn’t make a noise as she left the bedroom to go into the suites sitting area.
Her plan was to go out onto the street and look through the high fashion stores lining the shopping district.
Leaving the hotel, she walked along the tree-lined way, her mind was not on shopping. Should she break off the relationship now before it became painful? All her friends seemed to be stuck in difficult relationships, or, no relationship at all. Her mind raced through the different scenarios.
She was in love with him – that was the problem. She knew she would never be able to possess him completely. He was already possessed by something, not of this world.
Trip to Silvio Caro

Warm salty air flows over the windshield and fills the cockpit with the fragrance of the open sea. Far into the distance the tops of the thunderstorms are illuminated by constant flashes of lightening; better than any 4th of July fireworks. Nikki lies comfortably on the divan in a half sleep, wearing only her bikini bottom. I marvel at her body. Never able to get her out of my mind, I decide to go with the fact – I am in love with her.

Someone tapped on the sliding glass door off the patio. I turned and saw a women standing outside. I knew immediately it was Nikki. I went over and opened the door.
“I’m Nikki, I’m early, but I thought we might talk a little before the driver arrives; is this a bad time.”
I stood there speechless, I have rarely been in the company of a woman so becoming. I stopped breathing. I was sure Nikki was aware of the effect she had on me.
Nikki was not beautiful in the way fashion models are, instead her beauty was caused by the combination of her striking looks, and confidant demeanor. Although I had been told what to expect, I was unprepared to be captivated by her in such a brief period of time.
I regained my composure in a heartbeat and invited Nikki in. Nikki was wearing a knee length sleeveless summer dress in a colorful print, the back was cut low, but her bodice went up to her neckline, covering any cleavage that would have distracted viewers from seeing the complete woman. She had very shapely calves set off by high healed thin strapped sandals from Michael Kors. The beauty of her face was amplified by the inclusion of an expensive pearl necklace and matching earrings. Nikki sported an Omega Ladymatic done in pink gold and brushed nickel with closely set diamonds surrounding the bezel and inserted as the time marks on the face. A small clutch in her hand contained a credit card and a small pistol. Probably no cell phone; she didn’t need one. Her ensemble was all from upscale retailers, Mostly Niemen Marcus, Tiffany’s and Bulgari, all of it was worth more than I made in a year. Normally I could avail myself of my x-ray vision in order to check out her under clothing, this time I suppressed the urge; I wanted to take a slow hand and let our potential relationship unfold over time. Being able to wait greatly increased my desire to know more about this amazing woman.
“Please come into the living room and sit down, would you care for ice water, or, I am sure I can mix a drink or find wine for you. This villa seems to have everything.”
“I’ll wait until we arrive at dinner, thank you.” Nikki was staring at me intensely, that made me nervous. After a brief pause which seemed like an eternity she said; “You are older than I thought, I should have paid more attention to your bio, but they are not always accurate anyway.”
I wasn’t offended by her comment, for it was true. “Older may be better for the work that I do. Sometimes experience trumps younger agility.” I explained.
“What is it that you do?” Nikki was beginning to fish for information. That was the sign of a good operator.
“You will find the answer to that soon enough, right now we may want to have a nice dinner and get acquainted; friends of the Cause will be dinning with us.”
Dalton had arranged a dinner, so some of the members of the cause that were involved with the initial research could meet.
“What will you do if our situation gets rough and we need to move fast?” Nikki wasn’t going to let go of the age thing. I could see the concern she had for the both of us. If things got dicey I would definitely be a liability.
“Here is how I see it. I know that this could go down poorly; that’s the reason the Cause assigned you; to me. My job is to put together a plan; your job is to keep me safe and get me to the meeting!” I wanted to establish the equal importance of both our roles to the operation.
“The Cause has confidence in you carrying out this assignment even if I am not as fast or strong as you may want me to be; I am the only one in the Cause who knows how to make the calculations that can move the Mind to another universe. I have more abilities than you give me credit for.”
Nikki was aware she was moving too fast. She switched speeds and slowed down. We were well paid and had months to go before the meeting took place.
“The thing of it is; I am the only person capable of tying all the parts of the plan together. I know just how the two realities are to interact and how it may be possible to penetrate the Vail. All of that information had been programed into my genes by the Phlamne when the Phlamne mind arrived on Earth two billion years ago.”
Nikki took in my comments and studied me carefully, the intensity of her gaze made me uncomfortable. She sat on the small couch with her legs together and her knees to one side which allowed her to sit peacefully and maintain a high degree of decorum.
Her dress was a masterpiece; the upper part of the dress was cut snugly below her breasts, showing them off. Her breasts were pleasantly full, just right for a woman of her age. “Perfect”, I thought. The part of the dress around her hips was cut more generously to allow her to sit comfortable with out the dress ridding up. Her calves were very shapely with a hint of firmness and delineation of her muscles, which belied the extraordinarily good physical condition she was in. Her legs were wonderfully tanned; I wondered what her tan lines would look like when she was naked, hell she may not even have tan lines. Then there was that face and her extraordinary handsome looks. It was that gaze; the disinterested concentration that sent men over the top, and sometimes to their grave.

There will only be one Nikki Havana
When we left Nikki Havana, that is the readers and myself, she was in her mid thirties. Nikki was one of the principal players in Abort! Abort! the first book in the Journey to Save the Mind series.
Nikki was hired by the Cause to guide and protect TCO while he was accomplishing his meeting with foreign scientists to get information on how to move the collective mind here on Earth to a more hospitable place.
The meeting was to take place in Cuba, a country Nikki was intimately familiar with. To make the story interesting I spent a fair amount of time doing research on Cuba and finding a plausible place they could meet that would be realistic if any of the readers wished to do their own research on the location. That research became fun and very rewarding.
At the time I was writing Abort! Abort! the revelations that the NSA had been intercepting telephone traffic and collecting information on who was placing the calls and the topics of the calls hit the news. I figure if the Government can do that, it could also intercept and gather data on the TXT traffic, it could also intercept and gather data on me.
I was concerned that my writing, which discussed Cuba, dissidents, and conflict between the Government and the Cause, could be misconstrued. Perhaps I would end up being followed and observed.
In Abort! Abort! the leading protagonist, TCO, spends his time studying the Rare Force Unobtainum. My thinking was if something is unobtainable, someone is going to want it. If it is a Rare Force and unobtainable at the same time it becomes very suspicious and if I write about it, I could be the object of suspicion. DHW

The above is an excerpt from one of the chapters of my first fantasy adventure novel, Abort! Abort!
I do not know when the character Nikki Havana arrived. I was working on writing a monthly post and Nikki just popped into my head. The writing went smoothly from the get-go. This is one of those things that only writers know about. They just happen, I was unaware of creating Nikki.
There are other characters that started that way in my head. I write and suddenly they are there. I chalk this up to one of those strange events of the Universe we are unable to know about. Human beings at this stage of our development are not sufficiently mentally developed to understand how this works. It is what the Universe wants us to create. In this way we will eventually get closer to understanding of how artistic creativity works.
For now I won’t examine it, I will just let the words, concepts, stories and characters flow.
